
At least 10 people are dead after a shooting at Santa Fe High School in Galveston County, Texas. Ten other people were injured. This shooting took the lives of eight students and two substitute teachers. They were members of the football team, they were big sisters, they were exchange students. Many had been in a first period art class. They had been going about their daily routine until they were shot and killed.
The shooter has been identified as a 17-year-old student at the high school. He is being held in Galveston County Jail without bond on charges of capital murder and aggravated assault of a peace officer. No motive has been released.
According to CNN, this is the 22nd school shooting in the United States this year alone. Here’s what we know about the victims.

Sabika Sheikh
Sabika Sheikh was an exchange student from Pakistan. She was in the United States thanks to the Youth Exchange and StudyES program, which provides scholarships for students from primarily Muslim countries to spend a year in the United States.
Actress Mindy Kaling posted a photo of Sheikh to Instagram, captioned, “When I saw her picture I was struck by how easily this could’ve been my own daughter. Can you imagine the anguish of losing your child this way? We must do more than console the families of the victims.”

Shana Fisher
Shana Fisher, who had just turned 16, was also killed in the shooting. Her family told the Houston Chronicle that she was shy, sweet and “loved life and her dog Kallie.”

Chris Stone
17-year-old Chris Stone, a junior, played football and loved video games. His sister, Mercedes Stone, told CNN that he was a great, loving little brother.
“Being a brother was his best job. Although he was the youngest, he definitely protected his sisters as if he was the oldest,” she said. “He was always there if someone needed someone to listen or some cheering up.”

Christian Garcia
15-year-old Christian “Riley” Garcia was mourned by leaders at Crosby Church, the church he had grown up attending.
On Facebook, a pastor at the church wrote that Garcia was “greatly loved and greatly missed.”

Cynthia Tisdale
Cynthia Tisdale was a substitute teacher at Santa Fe High School.
Tisdale’s son, Recie, told The Washington Post that his mother started substitute teaching because she “loved to help children. She didn’t have to do it. She did it because she loved it.”

Angelique Ramirez
Angelique Ramirez was described by her family and friends as a compassionate, funny, and vivacious older sister.
“With a broken heart and a soul that just can’t process all this right now, I have to announce my niece was one of the fatalities,” her aunt, Sylvia Pritchett, wrote in a Facebook post. “Please keep all the families in your thoughts, and hug your children tightly.”

Ann Perkins
Ann Perkins, a substitute teacher, was beloved at Santa Fe High School and beyond, according to CBS Dallas/Fort Worth.
Students and people in the community often referred to her as “Grandma Perkins.” A student who posted a tribute to her on Twitter said that she was the “sweetest lady in the whole world.”

Kimberly Vaughan
Kimberly Vaughan’s mother, Rhonda Hart, said on Facebook that her daughter was among those killed in the first-period art class.
“Call your damn senators. Call your congressmen,” she wrote. “We need GUN CONTROL. WE NEED TO PROTECT OUR KIDS.”

Jared Conard Black was a student at Santa Fe High School. Just two days before the shooting, he celebrated his 17th birthday, his uncle told KTRK-TV.
